2018 Dodge Charger

The 2018 Dodge Charger is a powerful yet remarkably practical performance sedan with four doors, a roomy cabin and a number of safety features. Base models start with a 3.6L V6 engine with an eight speed auto transmission that delivers 292 horsepower and includes all-wheel drive. Opting for the Track Pak with the SXT Plus will increase engine performance to 300 horsepower while also adding some of the performance-enhancing features available on V8 trims. The R/T features the next bump in engine power, with a 5.7L V8 outputting 370 horsepower, while the R/T Scat Pack boasts a 6.4L V8 (485 horsepower) and corresponding Brembo high-performance brakes. At the very premium end of the lineup is the SRT Hellcat with its powerful supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8 that makes 707 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque.

Add Sleek, Sporty Style

Available in colors like Go Mango, Maximum Steel and White Knuckle, the Charger is already designed to stand out from the crowd. Take it to the next level - add a sleeker and more aggressive style with the addition of an aftermarket chin spoiler or front splitter. These aren’t actually interchangeable terms, but two different things that serve different purposes and will influence the style as well as aerodynamics of your Charger in a few different ways. The main differences between a spoiler and a splitter include:

  • Their location: A spoiler will mount to the bumper and extend slightly below it, whereas a splitter will mount to the outer inches of the bumper.
  • Their appearance: As a spoiler hugs the underneath of the bumper, it's usually larger form creates more of a rounded shape. A splitter is typically a single strip that, as it mounts to the bumper, will extend it downwards and give the illusion that the vehicle is closer to the ground than it actually is.
  • The aerodynamics: A spoiler is more of a ‘windbreaker’; it works to reduce the amount of drag applied by the wind as you drive. A splitter will instead push the wind away from the underside to the top and sides of the vehicle, giving it more traction and control.

Despite these differences, they are usually both made from similar materials: high-quality polypropylene/ABS plastic or for the more high-end models, premium carbon fiber. Most are shipped black and can be custom-painted to match your own unique color, and with a wide range of different styles available for both chin spoilers and front splitters, including some that will help to emulate the look of Hellcat and Daytona models.

Underhood Dress-Up

If you’re looking to make the inner workings of your Charger look as good as its exterior, there are a variety of different engine dress up accessories available on the aftermarket. For supercharged Hemi V8s, a set of coil covers (often emblazoned with the 392 Hemi or Mopar logo) will keep your bay sleek and streamlined by concealing the exposed wiring harnesses and fuel rails. Sleek black, polished or carbon fibre finished front header plates are precision cut to ensure an exact fit over the radiator support and will add a distinctly premium look. Similar finishes are also available for water tank, coolant tank and fuse box covers, in order to create a uniform or indeed contrasting look. Don’t forget the finishing touches: a set of engine caps (shock tower covers, top hats and water tank, powering steer and replacement oil caps) as well as new hood struts. These small extras can go a long way in really making a revamped engine bay pop.
